As Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. John's Girls' School I am happy that we have launched a Schools Website so that most of the valuable information regarding School activities are available to all those interested in the welfare of the students in particular. We, as the Board of Trustees have done our best to provide all facilities necessary towards the enhancement of education of the students. We have given every encouragement to meet the modern day requirements of the students,. In this connection we have laid great emphasis in the teaching of English and Information Technology. During my tenure of over 23 years as the Chairman Board of Trustees, I had the proud privilege of witnessing the student population increasing from about 700 in 1995 to over 2000 in 2018 and the teaching staff increasing by over 70. Four new school buildings were constructed during this period and the most recent building completed in 2017 cost over 70 million rupees. In 2017 we introduced Smart Interactive Boards in a Multimedia room. This new innovation which only a few schools in the country are fortunate enough to possess, adds a new dimension in teaching and enables the students to enhance their knowledge on any subject in addition to what they learn from the books. We hope to enhance this facility in 2019 to Grade 6 and 7. It is rather unfortunate that we have to reject nearly 200 applicants who apply for admission at the Pre-School and Grade 1 Level every year as we can accommodate only 240 students. This fact alone though unfortunate speaks for itself of the popularity of the School. The outstanding results at Public Examinations has gained the school the distinction of becoming one of the best Schools in the island. In 2018 at the G.C.E Ordinary Level Examination all 88 students who sat this Examination qualified to sit for the G.C.E A. Level Exam while at the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam our School had the highest percentage of passes in the Kalutara district. There is no doubt in my mind that the credit for the outstanding achievements of the School must go to the untiring efforts of the Principal and the Teaching Staff. Neil Perera Chairman Board of Trustees.
It is indeed with great enthusiasm that I send this message at the re-launch of the school web site; a much anticipated event in keeping with the modern communication trends. The web site will undoubtedly bring Johnians spread across the globe together and will also be a source of information to whoever is interested in being connected with the school. St John’s Girls’ School has been marching forward with the able guidance and the support of the Board of Trustees and the past principals who have given their best to the school. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all of them. Johnians are involved in academic and co-curricular activities and I am happy to say that they excel in many spheres, bringing credit to their alma mater. In keeping with the motto of the school “Nihil Amanthi Difficle” (Nothing is impossible for the enthusiast) the Johnians compete with the rest of the schools with equal vigour and strength which is commendable. Let me conclude by wishing all Johnians the very best in each task that you embark on. Lakshila Ilapperuma Principal
As the Deputy Principal of St. John’s Girls’ School, I would like to welcome you to the School’s website. This website has been prepared in the hope that it will become a valuable resource for you and provide you with school news and information. This website has been developed to enable everyone to become familiar with our school, its policies, and other procedures.
The website showcases the wealth of experiences we offer the children and gives them a wider audience for their wonderful work.
Today, the role of a school is not only to pursue academic excellence but also to motivate and empower its students to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and productive members of an ever-changing global society.
Each child who arrives at St. John’s Girls’ School comes with their own individual challenges and our task during their time in our school is to help them to accept themselves as they are, to identify their unique potentials and to believe what is true; that they have much to offer to this world .
We strongly believe in the importance of teachers, parents, and administrators collaborating and communicating openly and frequently. We continually improve the quality of tools of communication, including giving our parents access to an interactive website where they can retrieve pertinent information about their children's academic achievement.
We value relationships and connections with the community. The launching of our website connecting past and present students around the world, is a significant step in our pursuance of keeping pace with the latest technological advancement in the world.
